Best time to plant horseradish in Australia
Armoracia rusticana
Horseradish is grown mainly for its big, white, tapering root, used as a spice and condiment. The intact root smells of little, but cutting or grating it releases mustard oil that irritates the eyes and sinuses. This leafy perennial, related to mustard and wasabi, can reach 1.5 metres.
On a shared plot: can spread
Regrows from root pieces and is very hard to remove. Grow it in a tub or ask your garden first.
